As a child I was painfully aware of how different my internal world was compared to others. I felt things so, so deeply and was perplexed at how others around me could seemingly let things roll right off them. I didn’t know what to do with all of those feelings, or why I had them and others didn’t, and so it often left me feeling like something was wrong with me.

And while I wish I had been able to leave childhood with my self-esteem unscathed, it became an important part of my story and ultimately led me to the field of psychology.
