What Gets Broken in Relationships Gets Healed in Relationships

About Me

If you’ve had a chance to explore the Everything But Crazy site, you may have noticed a blending of reality with both humor and non-judgmental acceptance. This is an intentional reflection of me and the way I see the world. I believe that mental health is not an achievement, but is instead a continuous process of ups and downs. The downs are difficult for all of us, but it can be helpful to remember that we are not alone in having them (and they won’t last). This mentality can help us push past the shame and self-criticism that can sometimes exacerbate the problems we are facing at the time, and instead lead us to seek out the support that helps us through.

MY BACKGROUND

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist and a mother of two. While I’ve encountered my fair share of ups and downs in my life, parenthood has offered up the most extreme variations – the intense and all-encompassing joy and awe that coincides with witnessing precious life unfold, as well as the depletion, overwhelm, and monotony that arises when tasked with the job of raising those precious beings. It is a roller-coaster ride complete with the whole range of emotions, and I’m not getting off the ride!

As a parent and a highly sensitive person (HSP), I’m also no stranger to the burdens of difficult emotions, and I’ve done my own work in trying to better understand where these feelings come from and how to create positive change in my life. I know how scary it is to reach out for help, and the courage it requires to finally take that step out of the shadows. Rest assured, I’ve been “on the other side of the couch.”

MY APPROACH AND PHILOSOPHY

Although you might have a certain stuffy image of “therapist” in your mind, what you’ll find when you show up to your first appointment is just another fellow human. I’m the person you might strike up a conversation with while standing in line at the local Starbucks, or the parent you wave to while picking up your child from school, or the friend of a friend you feel like you already know.

I’m the kind of therapist that will ask questions to get you thinking from new perspectives.  After I get to know you better, I try and help you connect current patterns to past experiences so that you can better understand why you operate in the ways that you do. Once you understand this, then we can work together to figure out what patterns are working for you and which ones you’d like to change. I help you develop coping skills and strategies to shift your ways of being in the world so they are more aligned with your goals. And together we work to heal any wounds from the past so they no longer hurt you. This is online therapy at its best.

I operate from a collaborative perspective knowing that my training and clinical experiences have value, but your inner wisdom and intuition are equally important. As such, I welcome your feedback and respect your authority over the direction of our discussions. This means that I will be an active participant, and may at times guide our sessions, but you have the ability to decide how much to share, when you want to share, and when you’d like to pause or slow down. I strive to create an environment in which you feel valued and accepted so you can feel free to dive into the work that has brought you here in the first place.

The relationship you create with your therapist is the best predictor of your success. To help you figure out if we might be a good fit, schedule a free 15 minute consultation with me. I look forward to talking with you!
